"Import Settings" problem Empty "Import Settings" problem

Post by LupusInSuite Sun Jun 21, 2009 11:20 pm

Hi, there. Hope someone can help.
I installed LupoPS 6.73 Full and it was OK, but got some problem(s) after, when I tried to import settings, my apps (cca 80/ 2.36GB) and files (cca700MB) by Suite Manager option. When I migrated from 6.71 to 6.72, did it manualy and it was OK, but then there was less applications, so I decided to try what is suggested. I can't say precisely when/what went wrong because I checked all check boxes, anyway, after message that importing was successful, when I started "start.exe", got spooky window:

"Import Settings" problem B558297e39

So, I admitted (who wouldn't?), and then:

"Import Settings" problem D5de25df85

At last:

"Import Settings" problem 8385af601d

PC WinXP SP3, 2GB RAM, CPU Athlon64 3000+
Thx for your time.

We can try to understand where is the problem:
1. You said the importing procedure works fine and the error appear when you try to start the Suite, is it correct?
2. What parts of the Suite do you have modified (added apps in MyApps, added apps in other places of the menu, added files in MyFiles folders, changed skin, changed personal image, removed some default apps...)?
3. Have you started the importing procedure at the first startup of the new Suite?
4. Have you closed all portable apps and both Suite launchers during the importing procedure?
5. These errors appear each time you try to run the Suite?
6. Can you send me the "Launcher" folder zipped of the new Suite version?

Yes, it is.

2. What parts of the Suite do you have modified (added apps in MyApps, added apps in other places of the menu, added files in MyFiles folders, changed skin, changed personal image, removed some default apps...)?
I'm afraid that there's no part of the Suite that I didn't change, except personal pic...
In fact, I returned default folder-constellation and corrected paths by ASuite/Options/tabVarious... like to keep MyFiles in the root of flashstick

3. Have you started the importing procedure at the first startup of the new Suite?
Yes.

4. Have you closed all portable apps and both Suite launchers during the importing procedure?
Yes, and I'm pretty sure: importing process could not start once when I forgot to do it.

5. These errors appear each time you try to run the Suite?
Yes and after restart LupoPS and after reboot OS.

6. Can you send me the "Launcher" folder zipped of the new Suite version?
Naturlich Smile, but, pls, send me link. I'm not so familiar with forums, can't find attach option.

thx for quick answer, hope my English is good enough Smile

Reading your answers, the first possible cause is that you have changed MyFiles location. I have to improve the import feature, because now it doesn't support folders in other places.
Anyway it may be cause a not correct settings migration, but not problems with the main launcher. To send me the zipped folder, you can host it on a free web hoster like http://www.mediafire.com/ or http://www.filesavr.com/ and write here the download link.

OK, folder is zipped and uploaded on:
http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=72ab3cc5b85224e8a0f2f20c509059d9e04e75f6e8ebb871
If it can help, I compared "MyApps" and "MyFiles" on both 6.72 & .73 LPS, and folders are the same.

Bye for now and hope you won't waste time to much.

But are there different MyApps and MyFiles folders for the old and the new versions? Or folder used are the same, in a structure like this:

"G:\Lupo PenSuite v6.72 Full"
"G:\Lupo PenSuite v6.73 Full"
"G:\MyApps"
"G:\MyFiles"

I found the problem, may be a bug in the importer that I'll fix in the next release.
Now, for your Suite you have to do it:
- remove "ASuite.xml" and "ASuiteTemp.xml" files included in the Launcher folder you sent me
- copy in that folder this file http://www.lupopensuite.com/files/ASuite.xml (right-click and save as)
- start the Suite normally from the Start exe

Please, look in MyApps category of the Suite menu and say me if there are all apps you had in the previous menu or not..
And can you also send me the Launcher folder of your old Suite version? Thanks..

I returned to default structure before installation, "MyFiles" are back inside the main folder and it looks like these:
"N:\Lupo PenSuite v6.72 Full"
"O:\Lupo PenSuite v6.73 Full"
"N:\Lupo PenSuite v6.72 Full\MyFiles"
"O:\Lupo PenSuite v6.72 Full\MyFiles"

"Start.exe" is OK with new "ASuite.xml ", and all applications that I put inside "MyApps" are recognized and in s. menu. There is a minor problem with apps that are in "MyApps" folder, but I put inside "regularly" start menu tree. Well, 1 pic = 1024 words, 2 pic = ...

and the old Launcher is on:

anyway, Lupo73, great respect and thanx.
Molto grazie!

I don't understand what is this minor problem? If is that you haven't the most recent used list of apps shown, you can set it in Options. If instead is that in your new MyApps category there are only a few subcategories and apps, it I think is the real issue that cause also your major problem and that I'm working to understand and solve.

I'll do my best to explain:
No, the problem is not connected with recent used list, it is OK.
Need to tell this: when I install new app which is not in Lupo's collection, I do it in "MyApps" folder, but then make shortcut in start menu group that already exists, e.g. if I heard about same new portable web browser (Flock 2.5), I'll install it in "MyApps" folder, but after that I'll add its shortcut in "Internet/Web Browsers" group with already settled shortcuts of FF & Opera. "MyApps" in start menu contains apps that could be named "Other Other Tools", they don't belong to any of groups or subgroups on originally Lupo's start menu.
Now, in new, fresh installed 6.73, I got shortcuts in Start menu, in "MyApps" only these "Other Other Tools" or apps whose shorcuts I put inside that start menu folder. All others are missing (e.g. FireFox and Opera are here, Flock are not). So, you are right, it is the real issue, but when I compare with no start menu at all, it seems like minor problemo.
Hope made a little bit clear?

Yes, it is clear and I have to say you that it is not a bug. The import tool is not a component of the main launcher (that is of another developer), it is my production and is created to import various components from an old to a new release. It import settings of default apps, MyApps folder, MyFiles folder, eventually skins added by the user to the old Suite release and it is also able to import items (shortcuts) from the old Suite menu. This last procedure read the ASuite.xml file (that contains the structure of the Suite menu) and copy parts of it in the new one. Given that each Suite release change from the previous one (new apps, updated apps, items moved in the menu etc.), there isn't a standard part of the menu that remains the same in all releases. It means that the only way to allow the partial menu importing is to has only one "slice" of the menu with user customizations and the process import this part, whereas the rest of it is the new default one.
I know it could be too restrictive for some users, so I have customized the Zero version of the Suite to support the total menu importing (instead of partially). In this way users that want to widely customize their Suite, can use this Suite version.
Obviously any advice or idea to improve this feature is welcome. Smile

I found the problem: the importing tool doesn't allow to use "Extra" or "Games" as subcategory names in MyApps (for a reason linked to the importing procedure itself), otherwise it produces a corrupted xml of the menu. To avoid any problem, you mustn't create these subcategory names in MyApps.
